Identity and self-esteem of an
individual is related to person's perception of his or her genitalia. Many factors contribute to the
sexuality, confidence, and femininity/masculinity, but none more than the
appearance of the genitalia. Self-esteem can be impaired if a person feels
his/her genitals inadequate compared with a percieved ideal. These feelings
develop from self-comparison with pornographic photographs or videos, media
attention, or comments from a sexual partner or friend.
Increased awareness particularly
related to increased media open-ness, has led to significant demand for
aesthetic surgery of the male and female genitalia.
Genital Aesthetic surgery deals
with the improvement of the appearance of individual's genital organs.
MALES:
Normal length of penis( measured
from centre of pubic bone to the tip of glans) is 5.7 inches with an average
from 4.7" to 6.3".
Normal girth of penis at corona is
4.4"( varies from 3.2 to 5.5") and 4.7" at base of penis( ranges from 3.5 to
5.9")
Penile length on it's dorsal
(superior) surface from centre of pubis bone to the tip of glans in fully
stretched flaccid penis correlates closely to erect penis length.
Penile Enlargement:
Penile lengthening: Increasing the
size of penis by cutting the suspensory ligament & V-Y Plasty. The actual
gain may be 1-2cm. Penile stretching devices (Megatrac) may be used after
surgery to further increase length upto 1".
Buried penis treatment: Excess
prepubic-fat and loose hanging skin give an appearance of buried penis.
Combination of Liposuction & Mini tummy-tuck improves the look of penis in such
cases.
Increased penile girth: Penile
girth can be increased using autologous (self) fat injection or dermal fat graft.
Typically some fat gets absorbed and whatever remains after one year remains for
lifetime. Sometimes repeat sittings may be required.
Penoscrotal webbing: corrected by
a specialised Z-plasty, using zig-zag incisions.
Loose Scrotal enlargement
correction.
FEMALES:
Labiaplasty: In majority of
females, the labia minora (inner genital "lips") are seen only when the legs are
wide apart, however in some women, large labia minora are visible even if the
legs are not apart, or are barely separated, cause embarrassment,
discomfort & difficulty in relationships. Many women are born with large or
irregular labia. Others develop this condition after childbirth or with aging.
Enlarged labia may also be noticeable in tightly fitting bikinis. Therefore,
many women with asymmetric or large labia choose to make the labia smaller, more
defined, and more appealing through a procedure known as "labiaplasty" or labia
minora reduction. Reshaping or reducing the external appearance of the vagina
can boost self esteem and enhance sexual enjoyment . The procedure can often be
combined with liposuction, tummy tuck, breast augmentation.
Incisions are well concealed and are usually barely visible later-on. It can be
performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia. Length
of surgery is around 1 to 2 hours. All sutures used are absorbable and therefore
do not need to be removed. After surgery, wearing a menstrual-type pad is
necessary to absorb the drainage and to provide padding and protection to the
area. After surgery some swelling & bruising is expected,
intercourse is to be avoided for 6 weeks & you can be back to work within
1 week .
The majority of women are more
confident, comfortable, and sexually active after labiaplasty.
Labia Majora Fat injection:
Autologus fat injection injected into labia majora restores fullness of
labia majora, which may be lost after childbirth or with age.
Pubic descent & Fat deposit: Can
be corrected with liposuction and combining with supra-pubic skin excision.
Vaginal Tightening: A loose ( patulous) vagina results
often from multiple deliveries, weight gain, age related laxity. This results in
separation of muscles on the sides of vagina ( Levator muscle). Other
deformities which can accompany this problem are laxity of perineal tissue,
rectocele, cystocele & stress incontinence.
Increasing the vaginal tone needs resuturing the separated
vaginal muscles and cutting & resuturing the excess skin and vaginal mucosa.
"Reconstructive
surgery is an attempt to restore the individual to normal;
Aesthetic surgery
attempts to surpass the normal."
