Age -
the inflammatory response of normal healing varies
with age. The response in children and teens to
injury can be exaggerated scars as their immune
systems tend to be "peaking" during those years.
Alternatively, things done to the face of 70-90 year
old, that would disfigure younger patients will
often not even find a scar.

CO2
(carbon dioxide) laser is used to repair the
scarred skin. The laser emits an intense beam of
energy that heats and vaporizes tissue
instantaneously. It is so precise that the normal
surrounding tissue is not affected. Once the outer
layer of skin has been removed, the new skin which
grows beneath is softer, smoother with a more
youthful appearance. It is therefore useful in deep
acne scars and old pox-scars.
